Perimenopause and Burnout: The Day I Realised I Wasn’t Just Stressed

For months, I lived in a cloud.

As a single working mum, I was used to being tired. I was used to the "Invisible Load" that mental spreadsheet we all carry that tracks everything from the school run to the grocery list and the emotional temperature of every room we walk into.

But this was different. I felt "out of body." Anxiety started creeping in at 3:00 AM, sharp and uninvited. My periods were doing something funky. I went to my GP, did the blood tests, and was told everything was "normal." I even did ten sessions of therapy for depression, but deep down, I knew: This isn’t just my mind. Something is happening to my engine.

Navigating the Perfect Storm - Understanding Perimenopause and Burnout

I eventually realised I was navigating the "Perfect Storm": the intersection of a demanding life and the start of perimenopause and burnout.

When these two collide, it’s not just "stress." It’s a physiological shift that makes your usual coping mechanisms fail. I didn’t need more "self-care" tips like bubble baths or "thinking positive." I needed a roadmap. I needed to know how to talk to my doctor so they’d actually listen, and I needed to know how to protect my energy when I was the only one holding the umbrella.

Moving Out of the Fog

If you are currently in that 47-tab-open headspace, I want you to know that "normal" blood tests don't mean your experience isn't real. Understanding the link between perimenopause and burnout is the first step in stops the guessing game.

I started tracking the small things—the spikes in worry, the physical symptoms, the moments where the engine felt like it was stalling. I needed a way to get the noise out of my head and into a safe space where I could actually see the patterns.

Reclaim Your Clarity

That is why I created the resources on this site. This isn't about "fixing" yourself; it's about giving yourself the toolkit I wish I had two years ago.

If you're feeling the weight of the world right now, you can find my guides and resources here, including:

  • The Quick Reset Bundle: For when you need to clear the immediate noise.

  • Clarity Through the Chaos: A guide for the woman doing it all who feels like she’s losing her identity to the fog.

  • The Burnout Assessment Workbook: To help you distinguish between "just tired" and true depletion.

A Gentle Reminder

You aren't failing, and you aren't "just" stressed. You are navigating a significant life transition while carrying a heavy load. It’s okay to move slowly. It’s okay to ask for a different kind of help.

Stop guessing. Start noticing. You deserve to feel like yourself again.
